Langevin trees

Mastering Acrylics II is an advanced workshop for experienced painters and is an extension of the first workshop, Mastering Acrylics (MA I), a prerequisite for this workshop.

Using the same principles and techniques covered in MA I we will apply them in 2 guided painting exercises: one with a coloured underpainting; the other using a tonal underpainting, or 'grisaille'.

Cost: $420.
Dates: March 24 - 25th, 2018
Time: 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
Location: McMillan Arts Centre,
133 McMillan St.
Parksville BC

Patterns and Colour
with Grant Leier

Grant Leier

Pattern and overlay of colours will be the focus of this workshop.

With the guidance of Grant Leier, students will create a small image starting with a black and white drawing on canvas. The students will then use the glaze and overpainting techniques as featured in Grant’s spring exhibition at the McMillan Art Gallery.

Mostly technical, this workshop is primarily a celebration of colour and pattern.

This workshop will be fun. It is suitable for anyone with some painting experience.

Canadian Artist Grant Leier grew up on the prairies of Western Canada, a rather sparse environment with little colour during the long winter months.

“I feel a need to inject intense colour, pattern, and a sense of celebration into everything I paint. I want the ordinary to be exotic, the black dog to be red, the pears to be blue. More than anything I want my images to evoke a sense of well-being and goodness, pursuing the creation of work that simply makes you feel good.”

Cost: $125.
Dates: Saturday May 5, 2018
Time: 9:30 am – 4:00 pm
Location: McMillan Arts Centre,
133 McMillan St.
Parksville BC
